January 2008 - Girls first to the start on test days |
 |
The first race test day in January saw some new junior drivers taking to the water.
Unusually, they have all been girls so far. Watch out lads!
Newcomers Natalie Craddock and Charlotte Gilbert have recently purchased junior
powerboats and will be taking to the water this season in our club races. Also
on the water taking part in one of our Training Days was visitor Vicky. After a
cautious start she was soon going full throttle and thoroughly enjoyed the session
which consists of 1-to-1 instruction throughout the afternoon starting off with a
safety briefing and walkthrough followed by 6 practical sessions on the water
during the afternoon. She’s now hoping to join the other girls and give the lads a
run for their money in 2008.
The 2008 junior racing season now looks set to be an interesting series. Although
we’ve lost Tom Gilderdale to the senior class and 2007 club champion Matt Palfreyman
is taking a year out to concentrate on his GCSEs, we are still expecting a good field.
National Champion and triple British Speed Record holder Ben Morse will be a regular
attendee along with National drivers Nick Walsh and Alex Gilbert, plus our 2007
newcomers Danny Fitzsimmons, Michael and Matthew Mellor and Lewis Newton.
With the two young ladies as well, we could have 9 drivers at most races.
Will this be enough to persuade the Balfour girls to return to the water as well?
Watch this space!

November 2007 - National Records Week 2007 |
 |
|
On Sunday 4t November a few of our drivers headed up to Lake Coniston to try
and break speed records at the annual Speed Records Week held over the week
5th to 9th November 2007. The week was far from ideal with strong winds blowing
for most of the week. In the end it proved to be a week of success, failure,
frustration, spills and damage for those that made the journey.

 |
On Sunday 8th July 2007 the Morse clan left the UK to begin the long trek to
Aluksne in Latvia for Ben to compete in the JT250 European Championships.
Over the weekend of 14th/15th July Ben acheived a fourth place, two third places
and a second place; results that were good enough to see him rewarded with a
podium finish and third place overall.
We would all like to offer congratulations to Ben and his support crew of mum
and dad, Ruth and Adrian (Taff), Andy Goodfellow, Ian Andrews and Carl Ogden and
hope that the top step of the podium isn't too far away.

April 2007 - Malc Hughes tries hard in Tang Leaze Trophy |
 |
In worsening weather conditions, Malc Hughes dived into the Timing cabin to
don a baseball cap, in his words, '... to keep his hair dry.'
About 15 minutes later he set out in the first heat of the day during April's
Tang Leaze Trophy meeting. In his usual full on style Malc took on the other
competitors and the weather and was going well with one lap to go. On his last
lap he successfully rounded the Fairground turn but then hooked it on the Weir
turn which resulted in him getting his clothes (and hair) rather wet!
The boat was recovered and after a quick engine strip down and rebuild Malc
made it out for the final heat. For once photographers were in the right place
at the right time to record the incident for posterity.
