July 2007 - Ben Morse finishes third overall in J250 European Championships

On Sunday 8th July 2007 the Morse clan of Adrian, Ruth and Ben left the UK to begin another long hike to distant parts for Ben to compete in the JT250 European Championships which were being held in Aluksne in Latvia. Arriving on Thursday they set up camp and were joined a day later by the crack (or is it another word which sounds like this) support crew of Andy Goodfellow, Ian Andrews and Carl Ogden. Despite the arrival of this crew Ben managed to remain focused for the main event which began on Saturday 14 July 2007. During the first qualifying period Ben managed to put up the second fastest time which ensured that when it came to the qualifying heats he was well positioned. He managed to win his qualifying heat and courtesy of his time set in the first qualifying session ensured that he began the first heat second on the grid. After a good start he led the first heat but during the course of an overtaking manouevre by the eventual winner he was forced to take avoiding action leading to his dropping down to fourth place where he eventually finished. Starting from fourth place in the second heat Ben quickly moved up to third place a position he retained until the finish. Day Two dawned to find Ben in third place on the grid for the third heat and he maintained this position to the end. In the final heat Ben started from third place on the grid which by the end of the race he had managed to convert to a second place. The effect of these results was that he was able to take his place on the podium with a very creditable third place overall.
